If you reside in Europe, the story you are about hear might sound or look familiar. If you reside in any other continent in the world, you might not have heard of this. Either way, it’s a great, and great-looking, story.

the Galaxy NX

About a year ago, Samsung announced the Galaxy NX, the first 3G/4G LTE Connected Compact System Camera (CSC). There are many reasons for photography, but it always has been about ‘connecting’; whether with your memory, friends, or people across the world.

The 20.3MP APS-C Sensor, 1/6000 sec shutter speed and 8.6fps shooting of the Galaxy NX says enough about the quality of the photos you can take, but Galaxy NX is unique in the sense that it has connectivity capabilities and is based on the Android eco-system. OK, nothing surprising up to here.

Now, to let people know about this unique ability of the Galaxy NX, Samsung built a travelling robot called Samsung NX Rover. As the word ‘rover’ suggests, Samsung NX Rover was inspired by NASA’s Mars Exploration Rover!

This means that Samsung NX Rover had the ability to explore spaces and, obviously, being built around the camera, it allowed users to shoot on location from anywhere and share images straight away.

So where did it go and what were people allowed to do with the Samsung NX Rover?

First of all, unfortunately, it wasn’t (not couldn’t be) sent out of space, but it was placed in various parts of Europe and allowed to explore. From March 2014 to April 2014, Samsung NX Rover successfully completed its missions of exploring London (UK), Munich (Germany), Reykjavik (Iceland), and Rome (Italy)

In London, the Samsung NX Rover went to the London Comic Con. Even among all the super heroes and famous characters, it still got its fair share of attention.

In Munich, it visited the FC Bayern Munich. Although the Samsung NX Rover does not look like something you see every day, the players of the FC Bayern Munich seemed to be too focused to notice it. We guess that is what world class athletes do… focus, which coincidentally Galaxy NX does well too.

In Reykjavik, it visited landscapes made famous in films and TV shows like Prometheus, Oblivion and Game of Thrones. It also managed to get some photos of models as well.

In Rome, it explored the UNESCO World Heritage sites and the scene at the Samsung Galaxy S5 Appia Run, a 13km road race.

As you can see, the quality of the photos people around the world got out of this Samsung NX Rover is great. It definitely provided a unique opportunity for taking advantage of the performance of the Samsung NX and shooting on location online.

What’s more, the Samsung NX Rover was shortlisted in the Innovation category at the Cannes Lions 2014 this June. The judges were amazed by its breakthrough technology and innovation. At the ceremony, the NX Rover was so popular that it appeared on stage at the Samsung Galaxy Studio, and even in the photo area of Getty Images where even distinguished guests tried to take pictures with it.

To thank the NX Rover for all its hard work, we ended the trip with some robot-vacation time allowing it to rove the sunny streets of Cannes, making new friends and practicing its French along the way.

For more information and pictures about the cool robot, check out its official site! Thanks!
