Uncompromising Quality

Applying a color that had never been applied to large TVs previously was no easy task. When an initial evaluation was conducted on the color of copper, many said that it was risky, and design team members voiced various concerns: “Would this color really be suitable for a large TV?”; ”Isn’t the color too old fashioned, appealing only to a small demographic of females?”

The team members continued to challenge themselves in order to answer these questions. After 24,000 hours of brainstorming, the team came up with 15,000 pieces of design drawings, gave presentations for 120 days and held meetings for 340 hours. Throughout this process, the copper color was changed to gold, pink-gold, and then to the color of champagne. Due to the characteristics of the color, which reflects both pink and yellow, it was difficult to create ‘a single color’ that would deliver the sense of understatement and sophistication of the ES9000. Additionally, detailed adjustments were needed for the TV’s large size, black and glass screen, and aesthetic compatibility with the surrounding environment. There was also the issue of different color reflections depending on the lighting. To address this issue, the design team even unified the lighting in all relevant spaces, including the mockup producer site, meeting rooms and design room.

It usually takes 40 to 50 art pieces (sample pieces) for the form to be created. With the ES9000, the number of art pieces quickly surpassed hundreds as Samsung colored and processed the product. Samsung created more than 10 mockups of the 75-inch product. This arduous process finally lent itself to a color that no one had prescribed, a single color fit for the ES9000: the ‘Rose Gold’  – created for the leading global product line.
