At this year’s CeBIT, one of the digital industry’s largest international trade fair for office, Information and the Telecommunications technology, Samsung dedicated all of its CeBIT presence to products and solutions for businesses this year, at a stand that is more than double the size of the previous year.  Also, as Samsung officially announced its plan to focus on small and medium sized business (SMB) solutions this year, it is apparent that Samsung printers will have SMB written all over them. Today we will briefly go over what this trend of SMB-oriented printers actually means for the consumers who will be using them.

Before we delve deep into specifics on the trends, let’s take a moment and look at some of the different printers Samsung has launched in the past year:

June 2013: The world’s first NFC enabled color laser printer and multi-function printers.

October 2013: Printers with XOA Web, a 4.3-inch wide color touch screen and high specifications.

October 2013: A4 laser printer industry’s first German Government Blue Angel Eco-Label

March 2014: Samsung Cloud Print app and a new line-up of NFC enabled high spec. printers for SMBs

Between June 2013 and March 2014, more than 5 printer series and several printing solutions have been introduced. There are at least four trends we are seeing here: Multi-Function and High Efficiency printers, Mobile Printing, and Customization and Eco-friendliness.

Multi-Function and High Efficiency

Speed is one of the most important factors for an efficient work environment. Where ‘efficiency’ is always going to be an inevitable trend, Samsung printers are printing faster and faster. For example, Samsung’s ProXpress M4020 and M4070 series can print much faster than any other product in the same class, printing up to 40 pages per minute. In fact, the 1GHz dual core CPU, which is a result of a collaborative efforts of world-leading semiconductor divisions a chip that integrates various other chips, delivers high performance, increasing the printing and scanning speed up to 1.5 times faster than conventional chips.

The Xpress M2885 series consists of the M2835DW mono laser printer and MFPs M2885FW which also offers print, copy, scan, and fax capabilities. It has a 600MHz processor and 128MB memory.  The Xpress C1860 has a dual CPU (533MHz main processor and 150MHz sub-processor) and a memory size of 256MB (upgradeable to 512MB). These printers enable easy and convenient mobile printing for SMB users with outstanding print speeds: 28 pages per minute (based on A4 size) from the mono laser printers and 18 pages per minute (based on A4 size) from the color laser printers.

And since multiple users can use this printer at the same time, SMBs can save on not only electricity costs, but also printing time while boosting productivity.

Mobile Printing

Mobile is also a very trendy word in entire IT world. It is fairly difficult to imagine that Samsung will only differentiate its printers with hardware alone, which is where ‘mobile’ aspect comes in. For businesses, ‘mobile’ is important for several reasons, however, most importantly, it is convenient and effective for everyone in the office. For example, Samsung’s NFC printers allow SMB customers without IT departments to easily monitor device information, status, and usage of consumables. This is due to the combination of the NFC function and the ‘Easy Print Management’ function on mobile devices, namely the Samsung Mobile Print app.

Now with the recent launch of the Samsung Cloud Print app, SMB customers can use and share the cloud print easily with just a few simple taps and automatically register others for sharing a document to print by using the phone number saved on their smartphones. For example, NFC function enables a smartphone to connect up to 20 printers. Also, as the app is compatible with Samsung KNOX, the mobile security system, SMBs can protect their confidential data securely; therefore, effectively.

Customization

As you can see, more than 5 Samsung printer series have been introduced in the past year: Xpress C1860, C410W, Xpress M2885, ProXpress M4020 and M4070. It is said that the SMB customers account for 61% of the entire business printing sector. There are thousands of kinds of SMBs and it is important for each and one of them to find the printers that are suitable for their own business/office environment. It is not so difficult to imagine that Samsung will expand its hardware coverage, such as NFC enabled mono, color and MFP printers for SMBs, as well as its software coverage, such as XOA open platform. With the variety of printing solutions Samsung has offered, it will be easier for SMBs to find their most customized and optimized printer solution.

Eco-friendliness

It seems like all the trendy words in the business have also been applied to Samsung printers. The last trends that we can see in the Samsung printers are the eco-friendliness and sustainability. As all Samsung printers feature the One Touch Eco-Button and Eco Driver, which reduce the toner and paper usage easily and effectively, SMBs are able to save up to 20 percent on power usage, leading to a lower electricity bill. What’s more, SMBs can create a better company image by shipping used Samsung toner cartridges to Samsung through the S.T.A.R (Samsung Take back and Recycle) program. Thus, with Samsung eco-friendly printers, SMBs can help save the environment.

As you can see, for SMBs, Samsung has focused on new technologies applied to printers, mobile printing, customization and eco-friendly design. While Samsung continues to expand its B2B business with hardware lineup and software coverage, it is making sure that its professional printing solutions offer efficiency, productivity and sustainability, all at lower costs. These are the trends that SMBs can expect from Samsung printers.
