Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. has received two praiseworthy ratings from two world renowned sources. It was rated the 3rd most visible company in the United States in the Harris Poll Reputation Quotient (RQ). It was also listed as one of the most innovative companies in the Internet of Things by Fast Company. What about Samsung appealed to these sources, and what do these ratings mean for Samsung?

The RQ is a study carried out every year to find the 100 most visible brands in the US. Although Samsung is no stranger to the RQ’s top 100 – it has found itself there for four years running – this is the first year that the electronics producer has been ranked in the top five. This means that it was ranked more highly than all other technology companies. What is it that makes a company ‘visible’ according to the RQ? There are many criteria in a variety of areas: emotional appeal, financial performance, products and services, social responsibility, vision and leadership and workplace environment.

Not only is Samsung clearly able to make an impression as one of the most visible brands in the US, its forward-thinking philosophy and subsequent achievements have also caught the attention of Fast Company, one of the world’s top business media outlets. Since 1995, it has concerned itself with companies that are leading the way into the future with their innovative thinking and achievements. And now it has rated Samsung in the top 50 out of the 100 companies it has deemed most innovative.

While Samsung’s smartphone success is recognized, its forward-thinking approach to the Internet of Things is what truly impresses Fast Company – it ranked Samsung second, making it the top technology company in their selection. According to Fast Company, Samsung not only has its sights set on the future, it is creating it in the form of cutting-edge wearable devices and smart home appliances. Some of the most innovative appliances that impressed Fast Company were fridges that text you when the door is left open, and robot vacuum cleaners, which can be controlled by a wearable device or your phone. Samsung’s smart devices have led Fast Company to dub it the biggest competitor in the market of the Internet of Things.

Through the acquisition of Smart Things last year, Samsung has gained its own platform for multiple apps and services. This platform can connect to all possible devices – smartphones, tablets, TVs and even light bulbs and locks. Samsung’s progressiveness in the growing sector of the Internet of Things has deservedly received a lot of respect from those at Fast Company.
