Now that we have the Gear VR and the Galaxy Note 4 ready in hand, let’s walk through how to get started and what to expect. To connect the Galaxy Note 4 to the Gear VR, first remove the front protective cover and press the phone lock key to release the connective port, which will raise upwards when released.

Next, connect the Galaxy Note 4 to the Gear VR face down, inserting the Note 4 into the connective port, similar to how you would charge the mobile device.

Make sure the connectors are fully inserted into the Galaxy Note 4’s multipurpose jack, and then push the opposite end of the Galaxy Note 4 downwards until the phone lock latch snaps onto the mobile device, holding it in place against the lenses.

Before enjoying your new Gear VR, there are a few more steps to take. First and most importantly, install the Gear VR software. If the Galaxy Note 4 is connected to the Gear VR for the first time, the installation process will start automatically. Make sure the mobile device is connected to a Wi-Fi or mobile network before beginning installation. After being prompted that you need to install the software, a voice audio message will ask you to remove the Galaxy Note 4 from the Gear VR. At this point, it is recommended that the terms and conditions are understood and necessary software and Oculus applications are downloaded.

The next step is to install the micro SD card that comes with the Gear VR. An Oculus is also required if not already established. Once completing the necessary steps, reconnect the Galaxy Note 4 to the Gear VR and place the device back on your head. It is important that you pay attention to the on-screen Health & Safety Warning information. After the notice, use your head to position the on-screen Pointer (crosshair) into the Oculus logo area. This will allow you to continue going over the instructions about getting to know the general user interface of the Gear VR.

For selecting and navigating through folder and files, you can use the touchpad. It works similarly to a mouse pad on a laptop, so it’s pretty intuitive. You can tap to select and swipe around to navigate through items and list items. You can also use the On-Screen pointer using the head movements since, obviously, Gear VR recognizes it.

Whenever you have the Gear VR on and think the viewing angle isn’t right or doesn’t feel centered, you can reorient it by ‘resetting the forward location’. All you have to do is press and hold the ‘back key’ then orient your head to the direction you wish to now set as the new ‘forward’ view. Afterwards, place the pointer atop ‘reorient’ and tap the touchpad to reset the view.

By the way, you can also use your headset/headphone with the Gear VR for a better sound experience. All you have to do is pair your Bluetooth headset/earphones, like Samsung Gear Circle, to your device or open the front cover to connect it to the Galaxy Note 4 headset jack. The headphones will need to be attached to the Galaxy Note 4, not the Gear VR.

So, there you have how to actually get started after you pop your Gear VR out of the box.   Wait until you see what you can do once you’ve got it up and running!
