In this three part series, two members of this elite group will demonstrate how to utilize Samsung Chef Collection appliances to easily recreate some of their favorite culinary delights, so that you can enjoy the simple pleasure of cooking, eating and sharing with the people you love in the comfort of your home.

Meet the Chef

In part one of our “In the Kitchen with the Club des Chefs” series, we introduce to you Daniel Boulud, one of America’s leading culinary authorities, and one of the most revered French chefs in New York. There, he is the chef and owner of several restaurants, including Manhattan’s renowned, Michelin-starred Daniel, among others spread across London, Miami and Singapore. He is most praised for the contemporary appeal he adds to passionate dishes rooted in French tradition.

The Dish

A native of Lyon, France, Chef Boulud was raised on his family’s farm in the village of Saint-Pierre-de-Chandieu, and remains inspired by the natural flow of the seasons and dishes influenced by the finest, freshest ingredients. Growing up, he spent a lot of time in the kitchen with his grandmother, no doubt a gastronome herself, learning traditional cooking techniques. It’s no surprise, then, that one of the chef’s favorite dishes is Poulet Grand-Mère (Grandmother’s Chicken), a savory fricassée, which he notes is as easy to make as it is delicious.

Take a look at Chef Boulud in action:

Directions

To begin, stuff the chicken with aromatic herbs, such as thyme, sage and garlic. Secure strings around the wings and legs to give it a nice shape for roasting and season it all over with salt and pepper. In a Dutch oven, roast the chicken on medium-high heat until the skin becomes golden brown. Add the bacon cubes and the remainder of the vegetables to the pot. While the chicken is roasting, split some mushrooms. Then, put the chicken in the oven and let it roast on the bone.

When the chicken is ready, remove it and set it aside to rest. Carve the bird and serve it with roasted vegetables and a fresh watercress salad.

Club des Chef Tips and Tools

Chef Boulud notes that anyone can cook, so long as they have the freshest ingredients and the right tools, which is where the thoughtfully designed Samsung Chef Collection FlexDuo 30″ Self-Cleaning Slide-In Double Oven Electric Convection Range comes into play.

The 5.8 cubic feet single oven splits into two with the Smart Divider. Two temperature controls cook dishes separately with no noticeable transfer of aroma or taste, which means you can roast both the chicken and vegetables (or perhaps even dessert) at different temperatures at the same time. Additionally, the oven’s temperature probe keeps you notified of the internal temperature of cooking foods, so that your Poulet Grand-Mère will come out tender and perfectly cooked every time, just like Grandma’s. Bon appétit!
