As long as the food you cook is edible, what can stop you from saying, “Yes, I guess I’m a pretty good cook”? Nothing really, right?

That is probably why you aren’t a chef, so it is probably best if you keep your cooking talent in your own kitchen. But if there is a certain compelling sense of desire in you to cook for somebody else, we extracted a couple of tips from the series of videos under the hashtag #ClubdesChefsTips that can help you fulfil your desire.

Ingredients are more temperamental than you think

According to world famous chefs Michel Troisgros and Christopher Kostow, it is important to keep each ingredient at the right temperature because temperature will affect the texture and flavor and taste eventually. So what is the optimal storage temperature for each ingredient? According to Michel he recommends the following conditions for storage:

Fish and meat at -1⁰C.

Fruit and vegetables at 2⁰C

Smoked products, such as bacon, ham, salmon and cheese at 3 to 4⁰C.

What does this mean? Does it mean that it is optimal to have 3 refrigerators for each kind of ingredients? Not really.

If you were to purchase the Chef Collection Refrigerator, the Chef Mode is a mode that maintains the freshness of the ingredients at their best by minimizing temperature fluctuation within +/- 0.5 degrees Celsius whereas conventional refrigerators can fluctuate in a wider range. The temperature can also be customized for each shelf depending on what ingredients are stored.

Ingredient Minimalism?

World famous chefs Michel Troisgros, Club des Chef member giving tips on cooking

When you’re ready to cook, it is important that the ingredients both compliment and contrast each other. The dish you create needs to be uncluttered and not overwhelm or distract the palate. According to Michel, he only uses 3 or maybe 4 to achieve just the right balance of flavors.

It is easier said than done of course, considering that there are so many ingredients you can choose from. However, this is also the fun of cooking. For example, as season changes, the kind of vegetables and ingredients you can get change as well. So there is a constant output of things that you can work with. According to Christopher Kostow, the interesting and challenging thing about being a chef is that you need to constantly be creative.
