Samsung has completely reimagined the design of its new Galaxy smartphone – starting from scratch to redefine the user experience with a blend of premium materials and streamlined features that offer sleek handling and finishing. The Galaxy S6 edge in particular shows unique and outstanding beauty while also providing a solid grip and an immersive viewing experience with the world’s first curved display on both sides.

While developing the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, Samsung used the codename “Project Zero” to exemplify its focus on a new, intuitive and user-focused smartphone rather than an existing success formula. This design philosophy represents Samsung’s return to fundamentals with devices. Simply put, Samsung has taken its industry-leading technology and created the finest and most carefully crafted devices ever.

The new design blends beautiful form and materials with purposeful tech innovation to deliver true value to consumers. Every vital aspect of the design – from the shape to the materials used – was considered from an entirely new perspective. Each detail was thoughtfully scrutinized to offer users an engaging and effortless experience.

Samsung’s dedication to Project Zero can clearly be seen from the exterior designs of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge.

The outside of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge combine two neutral and sleek looks: matte and glossy, and metal and glass. Both of the smartphones are crafted from premium metal with advanced finishing and feature Gorilla Glass 4 on both sides. The metal outer shell gives the smartphones a simple balance, while the polished look exemplifies the durability that is still flexible and distinguished.

The metal is non-glossy, giving the phones a matte finish. This metal frame has been applied to Samsung phones since the Galaxy Alpha, offering a visual rhythm and comfortable grip. It also provides more space, so users can easily use the buttons on the side. While the metal may make the devices appear deep and heavily weighted; they are in fact slim, lightweight in the hand and easy to use, producing harmony in al design elements.

The cool tones of metal and glass provide the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge with an upgraded, sophisticated style. Unique characteristics of the glass – in addition to micro patterns layered inside the glass and several layers of nano-thin material coating it – cause the smartphones’ bodies to elicit an array of colorful jewel tones, creating a spectacular visual texture. The reflection of natural light seamlessly blends with the smartphones, which come in a stunning selection of colors including White Pearl, Black Sapphire, Gold Platinum, Blue Topaz and Green Emerald.

At first glance, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge appear very simple; however, with a closer look, they reveal premium texture and distinct design features. The combination of straight lines and the edge’s curved lines blend together to form a powerful shape that also offers an excellent grip.

While the outside of the device is beautiful, it’s also powerful on the inside. Samsung wanted to refine and optimize the user experience (UX) in a way that replicated the smooth simplicity of flowing water. Project Zero successfully merges effortless flow with intuitive visuals to offer a natural and comfortable experience.

An example of this achievement is how Samsung simplified and refined steps and elements of functions.

People can intuitively select menu options that are clear and specific. They also don’t have to take extra steps to get to where they want to be. The colors of the app icons now match their categories, such as green for the call app related categories and orange for the contact app. Finally, when users transition between apps, their screens darken so they can focus on tasks one at a time. These smooth transitions provide a focused experience in what used to be an overwhelming and confusing environment.

Additionally, the new People edge function on the Galaxy S6 edge allows users to add frequent contacts and designate colors to each person so that they can easily communicate with them on their smartphones. To complete the full effect of a water droplet, both phones also offer water drop and sparkling bubble effects on the lock screen.

With Samsung’s leading technology, the company has crafted the most complete and intuitive devices ever – putting its users and design center stage. The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge represent the culmination of several years of hard work and product testing aligned with Samsung’s broader design philosophy, which is centered on innovation to improve the user experience.
