K-POP (Korean pop) artists have been turning a lot of heads recently, and Samsung Electronics is there to sponsor and support those in the arts. Samsung already has the reputation as a strong supporter of Modern Arts and Sports (Olympic), but the range of talents they back is surprising. Hi! This is Yoo Jin Chung college student and Global Student Reporter of Samsung Electronics in Shanghai, China. The ‘GALAXY TOUR’ with Bigbang and Samsung Electronics opened in the ‘Mercedes Benz Arena’ in Shanghai, China on July 21st.

Bigbang is a popular Korean teen idol group, with hordes of fans around the globe, including Asia, Europe, and South America. Beginning with their Shanghai concert, they plan to tour 25 cities in 16 countries by the end of this year. Their performance is also significant in that it marks the meeting of the musicians leading the latest music trend and the smart devices of Samsung, such as the GALAXY III, that pioneer the global cutting-edge mobile market.

Samsung Electronics, following the globally popular smartphones of Galaxy S and Galaxy S II, introduced the Galaxy S III, a user-oriented smart phone designed around the needs of the consumer. Released in May 2012, it is currently leading the global smart mobile device market.

Galaxy S III has sold more than 10 million units in the global market in the first 50 days of its release, and has become the first Samsung phone to do so in such a short period of time. Samsung Electronics decided to support the Bigbang with the Galaxy Concert to promote the global marketing of Bigbang, as well as showcase the Samsung Galaxy S III to young consumers around the world.

Chinese fans who came for the show braved the blazing heat (over 35° C or 95° F) and could barely contain their excitement, singing out the words to Bigbang’s hit songs.

Outside the venue, Bigbang merchandise, like t-shirts, bags, decorated folding fans, and headbands with the faces of the members, were selling like hot cakes, affirming the enormous popularity of Bigbang in China!

Finally the show began, and the venue was filled with the light of 10,000 illuminated yellow crowns, held up for Bigbang by their adoring fans. The crowd were on their feet cheering enthusiastically throughout the show.

With the hit songs of Bigbang, the show ended with a parade of excitements. The Chinese fans lingered in the venue for a while as they still could not let go of their excitement.  The Bigbang Galaxy Tour filled the beautiful night sky of Shanghai with stars.
